FAITH MUST LEAD TO ACTION! THE PLATINUMS!
THE CLASS OF HS 1954, COLLEGE 1958!

Our early years at Assumption was in our post-war Herran campus with  “quonset hut” (G.I. barracks surplus) classrooms and Chapel.

We were drilled in our distinctive “Assumption handwriting”. We had Study Periods, with a nun watching over us. We had to pick up from the teacher’s desk, the small wooden permit to go to the CR. Everybody had to play “bataille” during recess. We signed up for half-an-hour adoration before the Blessed Sacrament in the Chapel. We attended “Benediction” in the afternoons.

Since in our Assumption education faith must lead to action, we engaged in social action in High School. Some of us taught Catechism in nearby public schools after their school hours. We visited poor families and interacted with them. This made us socially aware of the world outside our comfort zones. This prompted some of us to actively engage in social problems and issues such as the restoration of democracy (the street marches/Parliamrent of the streets), watchdogs for Clean Elections as NAMFREL volunteers, and other social problems and issues, till now, in a new platform called Social Media.
