MARNIE ROMAN TORRES: Our Ever-Faithful AAA “Big Ate”
by Dette de la Fuente - Aruego

From the moment she stepped into the AAA, Marnie brought with her an unshakable sense of dedication, warmth, and genuine care for every person she encountered. Her service to the AAA was never just about ticking boxes or fulfilling obligations—rather, it was a true reflection of St. Marie Eugenie’s call to serve with a generous heart.

Every role she took on—Secretary, Assistant Secretary, head of the jubilarian committee—she embraced with her whole self. “Yes” has always come so easily to her, because when the community needs help, Marnie believes in simply diving in—she volunteered to teach in Malibay, helped look for prayer leaders, and pitched in wherever she could, from the Golf tournaments to the Bazaar. She was always there, willing to lend a hand with enthusiasm and kindness. She was also the perfect person to liaise between AAA, our silvers, and all the other gems. She’s very pleasant, has an ever-ready smile, and is truly the “friend” (ng bayan) of everyone. Even in her meeting minutes, she added a comprehensive and personalized touch that made each of us feel heard and appreciated.

One of her gifts was in the little things: a kind word, a gentle reminder, or a simple “please” and “thank you.” These gestures might seem small, but they reminded us that thoughtfulness is the foundation of true service. She showed us how sincere gratitude can transform the most mundane task into a meaningful shared effort.

Marnie’s personal touch and “friend ng bayan” spirit also shone in her ability to connect with anyone and everyone. Whether she was coordinating between the AAA, the jubilarians, or other alumni and alumnae groups, her warmth bridged gaps and put people at ease. She had her “Marnie” way of making everyone feel included and appreciated, from the newest member to our most seasoned alumnae.

Now, as Marnie steps back from her official duties (and jokes that perhaps she has done enough to last a lifetime!), we want to let her know how invaluable she has been to the AAA. Her selfless dedication and unassuming leadership are truly inspirational. We know she’s just a phone call away—whether we need help, or even just a little nudge of encouragement.

Marnie, thank you for giving so much of yourself: for saying yes, for leading committees with heart, and for always reminding us that service done with love can bring out the best in all of us. We are truly grateful for every moment you spent supporting and uplifting the AAA. You have been our big sister, our dependable Secretary, and a friend to everyone.

May the next chapter in your journey be filled with the same warmth and kindness that you have shown us all. Your legacy of service and graciousness will continue to light our path for years to come. And, from the bottom of our hearts—thank you, Marnie, for being an extraordinary trustee, mentor, and friend.
