SABRINA BAUTISTA PANLILIO
THANK YOU! WE SALUTE YOU!

By Ana de Villa – Singson

When you look at Sabrina, you think of grace and beauty.  She is one of those women blessed with regal bearing that makes her stand out.  And when you get to speak with her and get to know her a bit more, you will realize that it’s not just skin deep.  She has both inner grace and beauty in enviable amounts.

One of my first encounters with her was at the Assumption Summit held in 2019.  The Negrensen delegation was riding with me and my driver mistakenly passed a wrong route, causing us to be very very late for dinner in the Henry Sy building.  I must have looked flustered because she immediately took me aside and gave me 2 frizzy tablets which tasted like mint and instantly calmed me down!  She is a strong advocate of natural medicine…and in that sampling, it truly worked for me!

Our next collaboration was during the pandemic.  In a zoom meeting when we were asked for fund-raising ideas ( our usual golf and bazaar initiatives could not be undertaken due to  social distancing needs), I suggested an art auction.  Lo and behold, I instantly became the committee head and was asked to pick anyone in the board for the art auction team.  I knew that the golf team of the previous year had  raised huge amounts, so I immediately requested for the entire team to join the very first MagnificART online auction.  Brin, as we fondly call her, was a part of that team.  Brin not only sourced many paintings for donation to the MagnificART auction,  but also helped in transporting paintings to and from seller to buyer.  She generously made her vehicle and driver available, helping us to save immensely on operational costs.  She also deepened the MagnificART coffers by purchasing several auction items, the most notable of which is a wooden relleve of Our Lady, now hanging proudly and  fronting her weekend beachside home.      Her generosity was also evidenced through another advocacy of mine.  I am a trustee of PPCRV, an election advocate, which among other mandates, audits the integrity of the transmitted vote through the Unofficial Parallel Count in our Command Center.  In 2022,  I received a distressed SOS call from our Command Center.  We did not have enough food and drinks for the volunteers in PPCRV’s UST Command Center.   I messaged Brin, asking if she could donate bottled water.  Immediately, she donated 100 cases of bottled water.  Her only question was where she should send the cases of water…just like that!  That’s Brin…generous, kind and helpful always!

Brin was the college representative to the Board.  Our AAA charter requires that there should be at least 1 college alumna among the trustees of the AAA.  Brin was an excellent representative for Assumption College.  A devout Assumptionist , she undertook the spiritual formation of the College Faculty through the Marie Eugenie Institute, grounding the faculty deeply in St. Marie Eugenie’s teachings.    Her vast network also  helped bring in donors for our Golf Tournament, MagnificART and the Assumption Bazaar.  At a time when the inclusion of College in the Velada was just being initiated , Brin was the perfect example of an Assumption college alumna. Beautiful, well-spoken (she even speaks fluent Spanish!), well-mannered and perfectly educated in the Assumption core values of fidelity to duty and love of simplicity, she was and is testimony that the Assumption education knows no colors…it is both red plaid and blue!

Deeply faithful, Brin volunteered  in Lourdes, France for three weeks.  She underwent training in the different services:  the bath, the grotto, cleaning and mopping floors , attending the procession, meeting pilgrims.   While in Lourdes, she stayed at the Assumption Center  under the nurturing care of Sr. Mary Cecilia Claparols.  She worked at the Sanctuary, fixing flowers for the chapels, sometimes even cooking for the nuns.  It tells  much about Brin that deeply devout acts of volunteerism are  her quiet space, her place of strength.  A global citizen, she spends her time between Barcelona and Manila, but always, always would ensure that her AAA responsibilities were taken care of (For MagnificART 2, I needed to transport paintings again…and she came to the rescue when the paintings could not fit in my van!  All the way from Spain, she messaged her driver to bring her van and help out!  Thank you again Brin!)

Sabrina, her name stands for patience and perseverance in its Arabic etymology.  Brin is all that and so much more.  She also stands for grace, humility, kindness, generosity and deep faith.    I have said many times over, Brin is one of the most beautiful people I know.  She has beauty of countenance and even greater inner beauty of  spirituality, faith and strength.

Thank you Brin for your 6 years of service to the AAA.  You are one of a kind and we will truly, truly miss you!

 Vaya con Dios siempre!
