High School Jade 1990: Like an AC Girl, 35 Jade Years of Sisterhood.
Editor’s Note:
There are friendships that shine quietly through the years — not because they are perfect, but because they are true.
As the Jade Class of 1990 celebrates their Silver Jubilee, their chosen theme, “Like an AC Girl,” becomes more than a motto; it becomes a mirror of who they’ve become. In every laugh shared, every hand extended, and every story retold, their light glows even brighter — a reflection of grace, faith, and enduring sisterhood.
What follows is the heartfelt reflection of Ana Javelosa Gloria, who captures this spirit with tender honesty and joy. In her words, we are reminded that time may move forward, but the bonds of an Assumption girl — steadfast, joyful, and rooted in love — are forever.
There are moments that make the years melt away — moments that make us feel like no time has passed since high school. The kind that pulls you right back into the laughter, the warmth, and the familiar chaos that only true sisterhood can bring.
It starts with the hugs — the biggest, tightest ones — when we see each other again after years apart, and when we part ways after every practice, already looking forward to the next. Then come the menus for our post-practice kwento sessions (because let’s be honest, we take food very seriously — especially if there’s sangria involved!). The stories never stop, even during choreography sessions, until someone gently reminds us, “Girls… focus!”
There are tutorial sessions for those who missed a step or two, carpool convoys where no one is ever left behind, and a kind of generosity that quietly flows from one to another — time, encouragement, prayers. One friend drops off a college kid abroad, another performs at a piano concert, someone else takes care of an ailing parent — and through it all, the messages, the love, the support keep coming. That’s who we are.
On and off the Velada stage, this is what it means to live “Like an AC Girl.” The support within our batch is simply amazing. We lift each other up, we cheer one another on, and we celebrate the wins — big or small — whether it’s a presentation at work or a victory at home. Whatever role we take on, we give it our best. We push through challenges, we set goals, we take initiative. We help without fanfare and give without asking for anything in return. And every so often, we even say the motto out loud — “Like an AC Girl!” — as if to remind ourselves who we are, and what we stand for.
After Velada, something changes. We emerge different — renewed, grounded, hopeful. The practices, the laughter, the late-night chats, and even the muscle aches — they all shape us into better versions of ourselves. With faith rekindled and friendships strengthened, we walk forward carrying new learnings, grateful hearts, and a deeper sense of connection.
Our bond remains unshaken because we know its worth. We value it, we protect it, we nurture it. We are aware that what we have is special — not everyone is blessed with this kind of friendship that has lasted through the years. And maybe it’s because we understand that friendships like ours are one in a million.
We continue to grow, to evolve, and to be better “sisters” to one another. We know we are different — in ways, in lives, in worlds — but that’s exactly what makes it beautiful. We accept each other for who we are, not who we are expected to be. And in that space of love and acceptance, our sisterhood continues to bloom — gracefully, joyfully, Like an AC Girl. 🌸
And now, it’s time to see the Jades in full shine. Hit play and watch the Class of 1990 light up the stage — fierce, fabulous, and Just Like an AC Girl. 💫
From the stage to the story of everyday life, the girls of High School 1990 continue to shine with fortitude, confidence, and faith. In this inspiring episode of ACx, educator Maudie Hular Villamiel reflects on values formation within the family — and how faith becomes both anchor and compass for girls and women striving to live meaningful, purpose-filled lives.
Fortitude, confidence, and faith don’t come overnight — they’re built one choice, one lesson, one act of love at a time.
