THE MOTHER ROSA MEMORIAL FOUNDATION (MRMF)

Mother Rosa Maria Pachoud de L’Enfant Jesus, a French missionary who, for 63 years, loved the Assumption mission in the Philippines to the full, remains to be the living inspiration of the Mother Rosa Memorial Foundation (MRMF). This foundation was born out of the Assumption Herran Manila’s old girls’ love, audacity, and passion to serve the poor. It is recalled that when Mother Rosa took over as Mother Superior in 1931, she would send the high school seniors on field trips for social work. Her challenge to her young students were the words, “Make your life one long apostolate of fine example”. Generations of them expressed their affection and gratitude for who Mother Rose was to them and eventually, who they had become because of her loving accompaniment.
One of several concrete expressions of their gratitude to God for Mother Rose and upon the request of the barrio folk of San Simon, Pampanga is the Assumpta Technical High School, founded by MRMF in 1970 and currently celebrating its golden jubilee year (December 2020-2021). Encouraged by the quality of graduates the school turns over to society and challenged by the many families who still cannot afford on their own to provide quality basic education for their children, ATHS has embarked on a daring venture to continue prioritizing the enrolment of poor but deserving applicants but also accepting students coming from families with better financial means by managing its Socialized Tuition Fee Scheme. Believing in the mission begun by much older generations of Assumption alumnae, the younger Old Girls now continue to give of themselves generously to this mission. Each one lives her commitment with generosity and love for the MRMF mission coming from their personal experience of a meaningful encounter with the ATHS mission and the fruits of their transformative education.

The Assumption Old Girls who are currently in the Board Of Trustees, express why they spend their time and resources and choose to continue to be a part of MRMF:

Erlinda Faustino Velasco
My involvement with MRMF started after I was declared cancer-free around 2015. At that time, ATHS was having financial difficulties, so in thanksgiving for my recovery I decided to help. It has become my main advocacy since then and a chance to “pay back” to my alma mater for my Christian education and values.

Mariane Magsaysay Pratte
I became a board member of MRMF in 2002 and have seen crucial changes in the direction of ATHS through those years – from being a school dependent on donations for its operations to one of sustainable self-reliance, while still being faithful to its mission of being a school for the poor and offering them an excellent education and values formation. Being a part of the decision making processes and seeing the results that have led to the school’s growth and transformation, producing graduates who we can be truly proud of and who live the values they have been taught, working together with board members who include graduates from ATHS  is why I persist.

Salie Henson Naguiat
I became initially involved in MRMF when I was asked to manage the Linya Zita wood factory in Assumpta. When I met the board of trustees, I was very inspired by the members – Amb. Tan, Tita Nini Avancena, Nening Manahan, Sr. Josefina, Sonjie Trillana. I realized that this was my chance to give back to Assumption and the RA nuns who have nurtured and molded me to become the person that I am today. It is a priviledge to be part of that collective effort to transform the lives of the underprivileged children of Assumpta through quality education. And being a Capapampangan myself, it has been very fulfilling to see the children grow into confident, responsible and successful adults. In effect, it has also made me grow as a person.

Sonjie De Ocampo Trillana
Education is my favorite advocacy. It gives everyone a fair chance to better their lives. Add character formation and skills training and the child is equipped to face today’s world as a good Christian and productive citizen. This is what MRMF does for ATHS. It is focused on a day-to-day doable plan to achieve its goal. I am blessed to be part of this noble mission.

Gina Gabaldon Hechanova
Assumption is very close to my heart and has made me what I am today. It has taught me to live my life for others. And I believe in wanting to help children of farmers through education to give them a brighter future. MRMF has given me the opportunity to get involved and reaching out to others. ALL HAIL!

Clarissa Lim Velayo
Being part of the MRMF board for the past two years has helped me become a better BOT of the AAA. Seeing how Assumption plays a big part in ATHS development and in the community  of San Simon has made me appreciate the importance of continuing our Alumnae support. Seeing the growth of ATHS into an independenteng entity farther heightens my belief that a good education is important and this opportunity is the gift that Assumption gives to all its schools. Finally, I have learned si much from the leadership of Lito Tayag curing our meetings and with the Little snippets of his life that he has shared with the board.
