High School Platinum 1955: 70 Years of Trailblazing Spirit
The Platinum Class of 1955 carries their motto, Mariae Reginae Servio — I serve Mary the Queen, as a badge of honor. Seven decades on, they remain pioneers and witnesses of the Velada tradition. Close to being termed as a formidable institution, their story mirrors the very evolution of Velada itself. Long before the Mother Rose Auditorium stood in its present form, they already graced the stage when it was still the beloved Mother Rose Hall (MRH) and at times it was held in the gymnasium, filling it with their youthful laughter and the grace of Assumption women in bloom. Through the years, their spirit continued to shine — from their memorable performances in the MRH then in the Mother Rose Auditorium or MRA, to their participation in the online Velada of 2020, when even a pandemic could not keep their hearts apart.
Now, five years later, these ever-young trailblazers return to the stage — older yet much wiser, most importantly, very radiant as ever — to mark this rare and joy-filled Platinum milestone.
Though gathering is nothing new for this class — after all, they’ve met regularly through the years — the road to Velada 2025 carries a special kind of joy. Twice a week, rain or shine, they come together once more: canes, wheelchairs, laughter, and all. Each practice isn’t just a rehearsal; it’s a celebration of seventy years of enduring friendship. They truly care for one another, and their presence at every gathering is a living testimony to that bond.
Their cherished motto, Mariae Reginae Servio, finds new life in the way they continue to serve through love and presence. They embody Mary’s gentleness and strength by being there for each other — sharing laughter and tears alike, with classmates who have long since become family.
And as their song so lovingly says:
With each mem’ry, life’s lessons unfold,
We’re grateful to behold,
A bond of friendship, rarer than gold,
We’ll keep till time is old.
These words capture not just nostalgia but truth — a lifetime of companionship that has become their quiet ministry of love.
Reaching their Platinum milestone brings deep gratitude. They thank the Lord for the health and grace that allow them to celebrate together — even classmates from the Visayas eagerly joining the festivities. Every smile, every embrace, is a quiet thanksgiving for a friendship that has weathered time and distance.
Our dear friends, whom we won,
Though they’ve gone ahead,
We’ve shared tears of grief, and joy and laughter.
They live in our thoughts and hearts instead...
Their voices, like their memories, remain timeless.
As they look to the younger generations of Assumption alumnae, they leave a message that gleams as brightly as platinum itself: cherish your friendships. Nurture them, guard them, and let them be your lifelong treasure. As they so beautifully express, “Each of us matters, and we are there whenever the need arises… The value of friendship, which we nourished through the years, we will continue doing so, ‘till time itself is old.”
