GUIA MARIE MISTADES | SME Awardee | Grade School 2017
AC has always been vocal about transforming women into women of faith and action, and I believe that this has prepared me to face the challenges that I am encountering head-on. It is not new for different social issues and breaking news to be discussed in Social Studies classes, or even to have a special morning talk to tackle and to inform students regarding this, and this has sparked the woman of action in me.
As a HUMSS student, there are so many opportunities for me to study a wide range of contemporary issues and apply what I have learned in my different courses into fully grasping the situation. Though I am well informed, my duties as a Filipino citizen do not stop there. I actively participate in sharing my opinions and different posts on social media regarding my stand, grounded in my faith and the values that I have picked up from the Assumption education.
AC has always been empowering women to spearhead positive change in society which I value so much as an Assumptionista. Over the pandemic, there have been many headlines scattered around, some of which are very terrifying to speak about because of what these people have done to students like me who are concerned about the wellbeing of the country. But if there’s one thing that AC has taught me, it is to share my story and to be a courageous daughter of God.
As the elections are fast approaching, I was able to research the different presidential candidates and their different backgrounds to be informed though I am not eligible to vote yet this May. This situation has been a recurring theme in my papers and assessments that I have written as a grade 11 student. From my “Salita ng Taon,” when I tackled the word “lods” in the light of whom we should eye for in the upcoming elections, to my paper in Reading and Writing about what values the youth look for in national and local leaders, and my research paper in Filipino which aims to tackle the movie Heneral Luna to understand how power in Philippines was exercised from the past to present times. Because of this, I can start conversations with my peers and relatives, especially those who can vote this May to transform them as well into people of faith and action.
