AAA CHRISTMAS PARTY: WHEN DOING GOOD CAN BE SO MUCH FUN!

by Ana de Villa – Singson

After a year stacked with projects and much hard work, it was time to let loose and unwind.  The AAA had its yearend Christmas lunch…and…had so much fun!

Who doesn’t love dressing up?  We all got dolled up in Japanese costumes…and had trustees channeling Harajuku fashion, Anime and traditional kimonos with those 12 foot obis driving us to Youtube to figure out the intricacies and art of tying an obi sash ( my son Gaby and I had many laughs trying to figure it out!).  The RA nuns came in Tokyo fashion too, artfully folding origami cranes strung into necklaces and leis around their necks.  Sr. Ana Melocoton  was resplendent in a purple kimono complete with wooden umbrella, happily submitting to the fashion ministrations of the AAA Board.  Also on costume display were yummy Japanese dishes, with incoming trustee Peachy Talanay coming as a double -sided walking billboard of a ….plate of sushi!  Not to be outdone, AAA staffer, Julius, came in as a bowl of ramen.  Yum yum yum!

There were games galore.  And I was coralled into joining one called Shake-Shake-Shake which game master, incoming trustee Gladys Zafra gamely explained as shaking away to dislodge 30 plastic balls encased in a  box with a single hole  tied to one’s back. I went head to head  with co-trustee Tinnette Nisce who was not only shaking away but who even executed an acrobatic  half-cartwheel!  Not to be outdone, I shimmied and shook and jumped and look completely crazed with my hair flying every which way and kimono sleeves flapping wildly!  We were completely out of breath after a full minute of shake-shake-shaking!  Happily , I won my hard-earned prize…a jar of olive oil…yipee!!! ( You should try this game at home….I promise you, you will use up tons of calories shaking away!)

Another game had AAA President, Carmella Gana – Araullo, as game presider.  Contestants were given rapid fire instructions to touch a body part and then lunge to grab a cup.  Of course, there was always one less cup up for grabs so the very competitive juices of the trustees and nuns were in full display!

A surprise number for the outgoing trustees, AAA President Carmella Gana -Aurallo, AAA Vice President Ana de Villa -Singson ( moi!), AAA Secretary Marnie Torres, Trustee  Brin Panlilio and AAA Adviser Tina Nakpil, had us close to tears.  The remaining and incoming AAA trustees surprised us with a graceful dance worthy of a TikTok top feature!   Trustee Marie Concepcion Young (Our bazaar wiz and committee head) then took the stage to thank the outgoing trustees.  She thanked us for our passion, love, commitment and action.  Truly, I will miss my co-trustees…they are not just colleagues…they have become dear dear friends whom I admire so much for their generous sharing of their talents and time.

The surprise number for the outgoing AAA Trustees! Such graceful moves! Clap clap clap!

A key highlight of the party was another surprise! The San Juan Nepomuceno Glee Club of Malibay came a-caroling! Clad in festive red and green, they serenaded us with beautiful songs fully choreographed and perfectly synchronized.  So focused were they on singing well that they refused to have lunch until they had performed.  And what a heartwarming performance! The 35 carolers never missed a beat and bowed out to loud applause!

Hard work…and lots of fun…lots and lots of it!  They go hand in hand in the AAA!  As Sr. Ana so wisely said:  “…love you all …what teamwork your group had….just positive energy!  Felt no negative vibes even in the midst of the difficult, challenging, deadlines.  I guess this is a foretaste of heaven; do the mission with joy and happiness and live in a community of friends and sister(s)  for  a common cause.”

We wish you all a merry Christmas ….and the very best the season has to offer!  Rejoice…the Christ Child is born…and with Him…Emmanuel, God with us always!
