Cala Laiya: Our Tiny Home Beach Getaway, Friendship Edition
By: Gladys Santiago Zafra

The year 2021 was still uncertain for many, especially the middle part of the year. Delta came out and our lives were on pause button. But it did not stop us to get away from the city, celebrate friendship and appreciate the sand and sea. The beauty of Cala Laiya is their tiny container homes. Since we were four, we got the two-bedroom casita, and it was perfect for us. Three days and two nights of never-ending storytelling, singalong of 90s (because this was era, we journeyed high school) and BTS, walking along the beach and taking lots of photos.

Cala Laiya (https://calalaiya.com/) is in Sitio Marulas, Laiya Ibabao, San Juan, Batangas City.

(My constants aka “Ex School Girls”. L-R: Carmela Cafuir Tanjangco, Claudette Pontiveros, yours tuly and Rosario Juan). We enjoyed Cala Laiya’s Day Beds. It’s very versatile and multi-functional. Rosario Juan (The girl in orange shirt), Chief Extractor Owner of Commune Coffee, made a quick video of coffee preparation by the beach. Oh yes, did I mention we’re facing the beach?
Our tiny home! We loved the exterior and interior of our container home. It’s perfect for this girl tribe, to spend the getaway. We shared, as an aspiration, that we’ll have our friendship senior citizen edition of our tiny home. Maybe a bungalow type? We couldn’t imagine ourselves going up and down the stairs.
First day high! Our arrival.
Our very own photo sessions.
The food selection was awesome! Reasonably priced, it surely filled our hearts and bellies.
Their halo-halo was refreshing and yummy. Also pretty, it deserved its own photo-shoot session.
Our very own coffee guru. Coffee prep by the beach.
