ILOILO, MY BEAUTIFUL HOMETOWN By Rica Tinsay Lustre | HS 1983
Iloilo, my beautiful hometown. This heritage city gave me beautiful memories, and still continues to fascinate me to this day.
I spent many years in the magnificent Assumption Iloilo (founded circa 1910) with its lovely chapel, lush gardens and a magnificent river at the back.
Shopping for school stuff was in Calle Real with its neoclassical & Art Deco buildings. Sunday mass and yearly fiestas were celebrated in Centuries old churches and mansions, mostly built around the plazas of the different districts.
Ilonggos are proud of this city. We have preserved the past and continue to make this city even more beautiful.
Visit and walk the 10-kilometer esplanade built along the river, marvel at the historical buildings, enjoy the thriving art scene, feast on the freshest seafood, Batchoy, pancit molo and the sweetest mangoes.
The beach, the quaint farmhouse, the romantic cafe on the fishponds, are all a short car drive or quick speed boat away.
