THE BUCOLIC LIFE: PINKIE’S FARM TOUR, Lipa, Batangas
By Ana de Villa – Singson
An easy, breezy drive to Lipa sheds the glitz and glam and stress of city living. Looking for something bucolic and simple and honest…oh yes, it’s yummy too! Hie off to Pinkie’s Farm where there are regular or bespoke farm tours. When I was there with my husband’s Singson clan, we were given a private tour of the farm. It began with a lecture on the different breeds of cows ( they started with only 3), the life cycle of a cow and in no time, we were face to face with several of the bovine species. Before milking the cows, we practiced on inflated, water-filled gloves suspended on a hanging wire. That didn’t prepare me though for being faced with my very own cow, bellowing gently since she was full of milk and needed me to relieve her of the load. It was much easier feeding the cows, you can’t make mistakes feeding them handfuls of fresh grass! But the most darling of all were the calves. Small , with large long-lashed eyes and with spindly legs, I hand-fed one of them from a milk bottle…and I was a doting mom with a little tot once again.
We were also taught how to make kesong puti…and eating it freshly made is creamy nirvana that melts in your mouth. And the best part? Ordering and taking home liters of their fresh, no extenders, preservative- free milk and yoghurt.
They have since added other activities like lunch featuring the famed Swiss Inn fresh corned beef and pastillas-making. It was literally a breath of fresh air! More info at https://pinkiesfarm.com
