ALUMNA IN FOCUS: ROSANNA OCAMPO RODRIGUEZ

ROSANNA OCAMPO RODRIGUEZ…FASHION’S DARLING!

By Ana de Villa Singson

Rosanna burst into the Philippine fashion scene in her mid-20’s…and took it by storm.  Eschewing anything basic, her lines are bold, vibrant, vivacious, much like Rosanna herself.  Arriving back in Manila after 5 years  of fashion design education in Milan’s Instituto Marangoni (it was supposed to be a year and a half…but she fell in love with Milan and stayed that much longer!), she was not just a habitue of the social scene, she dressed many of its most recognizable faces! Now a 15 years fashion veteran, she has launched  many raved about collections and collaborations. She has been feted  as one of the metro’s most stylish women and featured as a fashion icon in countless magazines and TV networks.  Her eponymously named brand has an atelier near her home and a boutique in Rockwell.

HELPING HANDS: DOING GOOD IS OUR BUSINESS!

PROJECT PEARLS

by Marie Young

Project Pearls adopted  ‘Helping Land’ a temporary Housing in one of the poorest communities in Tondo. The main source of livelihood of the families is scavenging from garbage and selling recyclable materials. Due to extreme poverty, many families are left with no choice but to eat “pagpag”, which is leftover food from restaurants.

Preface by Ana de Villa Singson

“Young people are the roots from which will spring Christian families, and from these families will come others. And, if a new generation comes forth from our teaching, we shall have truly worked for the coming of the reign of Jesus in society.”

by Ana de Villa – Singson

Who doesn’t love a macaron?… those meringue confections cradling infinite selections of fillings:  caramel, salted caramel, chocolate, berries, gianduja, buttercream, raspberry, espresso, even savory ones with black and white truffles…their colors are as pretty and as expressive as only small bites of heaven can be!

The following is the eulogy I was requested to share on the fourth night of the novena masses for Sr. Remedios.

SECRET SANTA

By Dette de la Fuente – Aruego

EXCHANGING GIFTS PLUS THE LEFT AND RIGHT GAME

By Chin Bautista Joson

Among the many family traditions we have during the festive season, my favorites are dressing up the Christmas tree and exchange gifts. From the time I had a home of my own, putting up a Christmas tree during the holiday season was always a must for me. Now, each year, my three kids and I have a tradition of putting up the trinkets. Putting the star is now the responsibility of my 10-year-old daughter since she’s old enough.

christmas - tree gazing

There is a legend that after Jesus Christ was born, some of the trees shook off the snow and turned green to commemorate the event. Since then, Christmas trees have become symbols of permanence and evergreen immortality, of fresh green beginnings after a long winter. Whether myth, fable or legend, gazing at Christmas trees is always cathartic. Christmas trees symbolize happy times, reunions, the generosity of giving, the wonders of receiving, of happy meals with those you love dearest and of moments that you want to stretch on and on so they last forever. Let’s go tree-gazing and as we do, let’s offer up a fervent prayer for a safer, happier, more peaceful world. We are hopeful! The Christ Child is coming!

AAA PRESIDENT’S YEAR-END REPORT

By Tina Casa Nakpil

No gift, no yes, is too small.  We are all qualified.   And that is the power of the collective of the Alumnae.  Put all those little efforts together –and the big ones, too– and they redound to something extraordinary.  Last year, it translated to P12M plus of extraordinary assistance, complemented with love and compassion in the form of your shared time and talent.

the assumption world prays together

Old Girls from across the globe united in prayer. Alumnae from AAA chapters in USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, Asia, the Philippines gathered to pray the rosary over 4 weeks. In this season of Advent, we prepare ourselves for the birth of the Christ Child. In prayers, there is renewed hope, deepened faith. In red plaid and blue, guided by our RA nuns who preface each rosary, we pray. Love. Peace. Happiness. Simplicity. Contentment. Generosity. Kindness. Patience. Compassion. A Blessed Christmas and a Happy 2023 to All!

ORGANIZE YOUR WAY TO SPARK JOY! TIDY UP! KONMARI STYLE!

By Ana de Villa Singson

When things are hard to find, when you can’t breathe in a very crowded and cluttered room, when you are wasting valuable time looking for things which just aren’t where they are supposed to be…IT’S TIME TO ORGARNIZE!

Organizing can be a daunting task…it’s like trying to fit in an elephant into a refrigerator!  We needed an expert!  And so..the AAA ORGANIZING CLUB called in Christine Dichao, the first New York-certified Konmari consultant in the Philippines; one who is much in demand for corporate and even personal consultations. A familiar face in  the  corporate workshop circuit, Christine very generously shared time and conducted 3 sessions for the AAA ORGANIZING CLUB.

REFLECTING…WALKING WITH ST. MARIE EUGENIE

Last weekend, our batch recorded our Velada video as Ruby Jubilarians of 2022. This is the 4th time we’ve celebrated our Velada, and every time we do, I see and feel this favorite quote from St Marie Eugenie, LOVE NEVER SAYS I HAVE DONE ENOUGH, in each and everyone of us. The bonding and caring flows out so naturally and sincerely. Whether in Manila or in different parts of the world, online and on-site, from planning to practices to performing to fundraising and donating, everyone puts pause on their daily routines, and shares their time, talents and treasures to live by our batch motto, Quid retribuam Domino? What thanks can I render Thee, Lord?

HONORING ST. MARIE EUGENIE

5 Assumptionists do France in search of a saint

Rare book traces the footsteps of foundress Saint Marie Eugénie—and serves as guide to a culture, art, even food and shopping experience.

The best way to discover a saint is to follow in her footsteps. That was what five optimistic explorers undertook one spring day in Paris, alive with the hope of attaining their mission: to come to know and be familiar with their beloved foundress, Saint Marie Eugénie of Jesus. It was a mission they had not anticipated. They hadn’t started with a plan. But as if guided by unseen influences, they found themselves being led on a journey.
